Daycare Drama

I have had the amazing privilege of being able to take an entire year off of work to spend it with my daughter.  I am a teacher and I gave birth to my daughter at the beginning of August.  It was right about this time a year ago that my school and I came to the mutual decision that I would return to the classroom for the 2014 school year.  During my pregnancy, over the summer months, I had lots of time to think and I absolutely had my concerns and  doubts about being home with her for an entire year.  How would I fill my days, what would we do every day, would I be pulling my hair out?  Well here I am, 7 months in and time is flying!  And worse, the time has come to start thinking about where my daughter will be when school starts for me in the fall.

So far, I have looked at 2 day care centers and I on my drive back home, I cried the entire time!  I know that it will have to happen, I know that she will be fine, but it is all of a sudden hitting me that someone else will be spending all day every day with my daughter, watching her grow, watching her change and it just breaks my heart.  I also feel very naive and inexperienced when it comes to the day care search process.  I want to make sure I am asking the right questions and looking for all the qualities that make for an ideal place to send my daughter.  My first choice would ideally be a nanny or at least a nanny share with another mom but unfortunately, from a financial standpoint I do not think that will work for us.  My second choice is to send her to an at home day care center, a place that to me is the next best thing to having her home with me. I have not found a place yet – I am still searching.  I also, despite my husbands best wishes, may just decide to never go back to work ;)

Hi Samantha,
I am a grandmother of two girls and I have participated in raising both girls since they we very young.
I have a suggestion. Many women my age are home now after having worked a great part of their lives and are searching for something to keep busy and make a contribution to life.
I know this isn’t for everyone. But in a city as big as New York, I’m sure there are plenty of women with years of experience in raising children. I have always thought there should be a GRANDMA ( or in my case MIMI) list available for women with a predicament like yours. I would reach out to any organization that may support these women still looking for supplement to their own incomes. Past and present moms need to form a connection somehow to help new moms feel more secure about leaving for work in the morning. Good Luck in your search.

LLD makes no representations about its sitters driving records or claims any responsibility for the quality of the driving services performed.

Liability

You agree to hold harmless Lucky Lil’ Darlings, for any damages caused by one of its sitters working as a Domestic Provider for the Family.  The Family hereby acknowledges that LLD served only as placement agent among Domestic Provider and the Family.

You hereby agree that Lucky Lil’ Darlings is not to be held responsible for any type of property damage (to your car or a third party's car, or any other property) or bodily injury or death (to either occupants of your car or another car) resulting from one of its sitters using your vehicle. It is against LLD policy for sitters to use their own vehicles, and if you choose to allow a sitter to drive your vehicle, or drive any vehicle while working for you, LLD cannot be held liable for any results of your choice to do so. LLD makes no representations about its sitters driving records or claims any responsibility for the quality of the driving services performed.

Please also note that cancellations or rescheduling done within a 24-hour period of the start time of services are subject to the following fee: $50 fee in NY, NJ, CT & CA; and $40 fee in TX, IL, PA, GA & MA. By agreeing to this waiver you grant us permission to charge your credit card.

BY SIGNING THIS AGREEMENT, FAMILY AFFIRMATIVELY CONSENTS TO AUTOMATIC CHARGES TO THE CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD ACCOUNT PROVIDED BELOW. DURING THE TERM OF THIS AGREEMENT, THE APPLICABLE FEES AGREED TO BETWEEN THE REFERRING PARTY AND THE FAMILY WILL BE CHARGED AUTOMATICALLY TO THIS ACCOUNT. THE SERVICES PROVIDED ARE CONTINUOUS AND WILL CONTINUE UNTIL FAMILY CANCELS OR THE AGREEMENT IS OTHERWISE TERMINATED. FAMILY CAN CANCEL AT ANY TIME BY CONTACTING LLD AT [info@luckylildarlings.com or 917.608.1231]. LLD DISCLAIMS ALL LIABILITY WITH RESPECT TO ITS OBLIGATIONS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT OR OTHERWISE FOR CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, AND EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN ANY EVENT, LLD’S LIABILITY TO FAMILY FOR ANY REASON AND UPON ANY CAUSE OF ACTION SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE NET AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID TO LLD BY FAMILY DURING THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE ON WHICH SUCH CLAIM ACCRUED. THIS LIMITATION APPLIES TO ALL CAUSES OF ACTION IN THE AGGREGATE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, BREACH OF CONTRACT, BREACH OF WARRANTY, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, MISREPRESENTATION, AND OTHER TORTS.
