Summer is Here!

After many long and cold winter months, summer seems to have arrived! I truly believe parenting gets easier in the summer time. Kids can play for hours outside without ever getting bored and then pass out at bed time because they are so worn out. Only real negative to parenting in the summer is the dreaded process of applying sunscreen multiple times a day. No one enjoys that…parent or kid!

Never forget the sunscreen!

The many sounds, sights, and smells of summer that I have always loved and anxiously await all winter long are here. This time along with the sound of birds chirping and the ice cream truck, I hear Avery’s amazing laugh as she goes down the slide and says “One more time Mommy…please?”

One more time!

This time along with the sight of the beautiful flowers blooming and the sun shining all day long, I see Avery’s beautiful smile as she picks flowers for me in the backyard. This time along with the smell of dinner on the grill and fresh cut grass, I smell Avery after a long day outside playing and in desperate need of a bath. But I have grown to love that scent because I know it is a sign of a fun day in the great outdoors!

Where’s the Winter Weather?

Like all working moms, I am very busy and don’t find much time to watch the news. I have heard buzz about global warming the past few years, but I am the first to admit I don’t know much about it. What I do know is the weather has been much warmer in Chicago this winter and we are taking full advantage, whatever the reason! Avery loves being outside more than anything else in the whole world! She wakes up wanting to go outside and goes to bed talking about playing outside. When it rains, she sings “Wain, Wain, Go Away” longingly as she stares out the window. When it is so cold I feel like I can’t breathe, she seems unfazed. This love for the outdoors has me thinking about her future….

Don’t know what’s going on with the weather…but we’re loving all the outdoors time we’re getting!

I believe one of my challenges as a mom is to help Avery continue to love and lead an active life. I see so many children who spend hours a day watching TV and playing video games. They have lost their love for the outdoors as some point along the way. As Avery grows up, I need to encourage and support her love for the outdoors. Which means I need to find my inner kid and remember how much fun snow angels, swings, and bike riding can be!

LLD A Day in the Park

A big shout out goes to all of the parents who brought their kids to our Day in the Park with Lucky Lil’ Darling sitters. It was a HUGE success! We loved having the chance to meet some new adorable kids, help them get a jump-start on homework after school, and spend some time in the great outdoors. The weather was beautiful and we couldn’t keep ourselves off the playground at the park. Some of the more adventurous big kids were climbing all over the rocks! As you can see, we were having a blast!

Our sitters helped kids pick different leaves, sticks and rocks for a school project about nature. LLD sitters really do try to go above and beyond!

Before we sent the kids on their way home, we had a tasty treat of ice cream and wandered around the outskirts of the park. We really were sad to see them go! Here’s a great picture of Lindsay hanging out with some of the kids during the event.
