As I pack for the trip back home to Ohio I am anticipating the worst homecoming. In the past, when I’ve left my husband home alone, there have been some unfortunate surprises upon my return. Once when I went to Chicago he set the kitchen on fire damaging the appliances and turning my white ceiling black. Who cares if he singed his hair? I’m still paying off the appliances.

Going to miss these lil’ ones!

Another time, he threw the grease fire pan out the window into the snow and stained my new patio. He tells me he hasn’t looked at my to do list since I wrote it back in February. It wasn’t really so much a “to do list” more like a “what NOT to do list.” Regardless, it should be interesting when I walk in the door after being away for two months.

Oh how my life will transition when I move back to Ohio from stroller walks with my lil’ granddaughters in New Jersey’s parks to rubber gloves & Lysol.

I have heard many of my friends tell me they are a mom first, wife second. And now that I am a mom, I completely understand that you always have to put your child first…his or her needs always take priority. But I sometimes feel that at the end of a long day, I don’t have any time or energy left for my husband. I gave all my energy to my little one and my boss, so I have nothing left to give! Lately I have been thinking about how I show up each day for my daughter and I really feel like I need to reconsider my priorities.

Always my #1 priority!

Now I know what you are all thinking…but don’t worry, I will always put the needs of my daughter first and foremost! However, I think one of the best ways to put her first is by taking care of my marriage. I need to find more time to spend with my husband and that is putting Avery’s needs first. This year, I definitely want this to be a focus of mine…which means I need to find more LLD sitters to help me out with my plan! She may not understand now, but down the road she will thank me for putting her Daddy first some days!

-Mindy is a former LLD sitter and lives in Chicago with her daughter and husband.
