I can’t believe that 8 weeks have passed, time flies when you are having fun. Even more so when you are engulfed in sleepless nights, little miracles, a lot of hard but gratifying work and a bunch of crazy love. I leave with mixed emotions. On one hand I’ve been with these babies every day since they were born and the thought of not seeing them is heartbreaking. On the other hand I’ve abandoned my husband and house. Even though I’ve seen him on short visits, I’m sure he’s felt neglected.

Happy 2 months to these lil’ darlings!

When I grew up my grandparents were in my life in every way. They visited once a week and brought treats and helped me out when ever they could. They were so full of love and I want to be that kind of grandparent. However, the distance that separates us makes this a problem with no immediate answer. I will for now enjoy the moments I have left with the two most adorable grandchildren I could ever have been blessed with and look forward to future visits.

I am thankful not only for them but to have been invited into my daughter’s home with open arms for this unforgettable experience. I do know that her opened arms were arms of sheer panic, but that’s okay. I’ll take it.

Thirty minutes before the unanticipated surgery I was called to the hospital. So in the cold,30 mph Manhattan winds, one of my daughters and I ran across the Upper East Side to be by another daughter’s side before she was wheeled away into the delivery room. We sat in the waiting room filled with tears both of joy and fear. Forty minutes later, we received a picture from Daddy with the two most precious faces you would ever want to see. Friends were asking me, “Aren’t you excited to be a grandparent?” Just the idea of that “G” word was surreal. But now as I look at and hold the babies it’s a mixture of feelings from the many memories of my children’s childhoods and the thoughts of my grandchildren’s futures. Actually holding them I never want to let them go.

Love seeing these lil’ darlings every day!

So as I embark on this journey of grandmotherhood, housekeeper and all around know-it-all, I’ll be journaling my experiences in my blog. I hope you enjoy The Diaper Diaries.
